PC-cillin Internet Security by Trend Micro Systems provides several tools to help you fight against online attacks. PC-cillin can stealth (hide) your computer, protect your email and block viruses. PC-cillin doesn't have complex controls that more powerful programs offer, but the simplicity of the control panel makes this a good choice for beginners.

Feature Set:  

As a firewall, PC-cillin has limited customization, but the program includes spam protection, anti-virus control and extra security for your personal information. You can set up your firewall to protect a home network, an office network, a wireless network or a direct connection network. Each set up allows you a specific security.

PC-cillin Internet Security's anti-virus protection is among the best.

Ease of Use:  

PC-cillin Internet Security is simple to use for the novice computer techie. The control panel makes it easy to switch from task to task. It's also simple to check your status, scan and clean viruses, protect your email, protect your personal information, set the firewall or update your program.

Ease of Installation:  

During installation, PC-cillin Internet Security quickly scans your computer for existing viruses so you'll have a clean start. The program also checks for updates immediately and prompts you if any are available.

Reliability:  

PC-cillin Internet Security passed most tests without trouble. The only test this firewall failed was the web tester test. PC-cillin allowed a program to retrieve information from our hard drive without permission and without detection. This is why the program ranked 15th.

PC-cillin Internet Security's help documentation is excellent. With the click of a button, you also have instant access to Trend MicroSystems' customer service department and tech support.

Summary:  

PC-cillin Internet Security lacks the tools that top firewall programs offer, but the firewall is among the best if your main concern is protection from viruses-by far the #1 threat online. The firewall is also an effective spam blocker.

Our biggest complaint was the failed web tester; a firewall should detect when any program accesses computer data without permission.
